About Us

As a church, we have discovered the Christian life is made up of three basic principles. If you will live by these principles, you will experience an authentic, growing and vibrant relationship with God and fulfil His purpose for your life. These three basics of the Christian life are to WORSHIP, GROW and SERVE.

As a church, we provide environments where you can experience each of these essential purposes. Members should make a commitment to each purpose every week. So, make sure that you attend a worship service each week where you can connect with God in song and Scripture. Plug into and participate in a small group so that you can grow spiritually and relationally. And then find a place of service in the church where you can care and minister to the needs of others.

Philippians 2:4 (English Standard Version)   "Let each of you look not only to his own interest, but also to the interests of others."

Our History

Greater Second Missionary Baptist Church was organized on July 25, 1965 under the shepherdship of the late E. N. Bates. Its initial worship location was 1801 Dodds Avenue. In June of 1978, the church began worship at the location in the former Eastdale Baptist Church. The church has had four pastors during its 43 year history. They include E. N. Bates (founder), Anthony E. Ray, Willie N. Paul and Dr. Steve A. Caudle, the present under–shepherd.

What to expect when you come to Greater Second Missionary Baptist Church

When you visit Greater Second, expect to find yourself in a welcoming environment that will allow you to experience real community and have the freedom to worship. Our greeters and ushers will be glad to help you find a small group or simply find a seat for the worship service.

Greater Second has something for everyone in your family. Your children will enjoy our Children's Ministry where they'll learn about salvation through Jesus Christ while having lots of fun in age-appropriate environments. Your teenagers will love our relevant Student Ministry. And we pray you will find a personal blessing in our worship services.

How do I become a Christian?

Admit that you have sinned.
“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”   (Romans 3:23)

Believe in your heart that Christ died for your sin.
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23) "But God commands His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”   (Romans 5:8)

Confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Savior and Lord.
“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.”    (Romans 10:9)
